About a week and a half ago, our friend Hou Xiaoting's parents kindly invited us to join their family for a farewell dinner (she'll be studying in the United States for the next two years) at 西湖春天 (West Lake Spring). I just realized that we never posted any photos from that dinner. In addition to good examples of typical 杭帮(Hangzhou) cuisine, we were introduced to some new and innovative dishes, so it's still worthwhile to post them now.
Some classics...
Tea Tree Mushrooms
Crispy Shrimp
Mushroom and Fishball Soup
铁板日本豆腐 (Cast-iron Tofu)
A couple first-time dishes...
南瓜炒粉丝 (Fried mung-bean noodles served in a pumpkin)
煎饺 Fried dumplings with a crispy stringy cover made of some sort of dough...
And the dish that reigned supreme...
Snow-white outer layer....
with an inner mango surprise
Too bad neither of us remember the name except that it maybe had "snow queen" in it.
